Redmi's 9 Prime

Redmi lanched their new midrange smartphone (Redmi 9 Prime) under 10,000. Will it become the game changer in this price segment?

Design

Redmi 9 Prime comes with a plastic back and has Gorilla Glass 3 for protection on front. It comes in four colour options.

• Matte Black
• Mint Green
• Space Blue
  

Since it comes with a plastic back, it doesn't have any premium feel with it. But we don't expect much in this price segment. It also has rear mounted fingerprint scanner which is located below the camera setup and is easy to reach it. It also has a P2i nano coating which helps in splash resistance.

Display

Redmi 9 Prime has a 6.53 inch FHD+ IPS LCD display. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The brightness goes upto 400nits on the display. The display looks sharp, bright and vivid colours in it. It also has dark mode and eye protection mode as well.

Cameras 

Redmi 9 Prime has a quad camera setup in the back which includes

• 13MP Primary Camera
• 8MP Ultra Wide Camera with 118⁰ Field Of View
• 5MP Macro Camera
• 2MP Depth Sensor 

The cameras can record upto 1080p Full HD videos at 60 fps ans especially the macro camera can record videos at 1080p. 

In front, Redmi 9 Prime sports a 8MP camera in a small dew drop notch and this can shoot portrait photos as well.

The selfie camera can record 1080p videos at 30 fps. Redmi 9 Prime looks decent in the camera department.

Processor

Redmi 9 Prime comes with the MediaTek's Helio G80 processor which is a octa-core processor. The phone also has support for HyperEngine Game Technology as per Redmi's statement. 

Battery

Redmi 9 Prime comes with a massive 5020mAh battery.

And to charge this battery, there is a Type-C port which supports 18W fast charging. But the box contains only a 10W charger in it.

Software

Redmi 9 Prime's Software is pretty similar to other Redmi phones. It comes with MIUI 11 on top of Android 10. It is a heavy skin and has a plenty of software features and customisation options. It has a dark mode and also face unlock. The software has adds and some bloatwares. Therefore the overall experience with the software is average only.

Redmi 9 Prime has a IR Blaster on the top of the phone and a headphone jack on under the phone. It has an P2i nano coating in it. It has Type-C port for charging. Redmi 9 Prime has a dedicated micro SD card slot and also supports dual VOLTE. It has Bluetooth 5.0 support and wireless FM.

Competition

Redmi 9 Prime comepetes with Realme narzo 10 , Realme 5i and Samsung's M11. All these smartphones have a HD+ display but Redmi 9 Prime has a FHD+ display. So it has a slight advantage here. And also the processor of Redmi 9 Prime slightly has more power when compared to other smartphones in this budget. 

Samsung M11 has a little edge because it is having a punchole and AMOLED display but the resolution is only HD+. So Redmi 9 Prime will be an budget all rounder in this price range.
